The Decatur Park District believes that the arts make an invaluable and unique contribution to the educational process and to the enrichment of the lives of all. We are dedicated to stimulating the imaginations of the young and the young at heart by offering educational, recreational and performing arts opportunities for individuals aged preschool to adult. Offerings include music, musical theatre, dance, visual art exhibitions, and drama. Our cultural arts programs are a part of the history and quality of life of our community.

Artistic quality in our programs and productions is apparent in the direction, set design, costuming, lighting, singing, dancing, choreography, musical/vocal direction and performance, and audience response. Our arts programming won the 1995 and 2001 Dottie Mullen Arts and Humanities Award, the highest honor attainable in our field for excellence in the arts. In 2010, the Park District’s arts program also received the IAPD Best of the Best award, presented by Arts Alliance Illinois. In 2011, Cultural Arts Manager Marie Jagger-Taylor received the Women of Excellence Della Crowder Miller and Annette Van Dyke Arts and Culture Award. In 2018, she received an Excellence in Theater Education Award – Honorable Mention, presented by Carnegie Mellon.
