DECATUR PARK DISTRICT RE-OPENING DECATUR INDOOR SPORTS CENTER (DISC)

In guidance with the Governor’s Restore Illinois Plan, the Decatur Park District is re-opening The Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC) in Phase 4 beginning Monday, June 29 with new hours from 6AM – 8PM Monday through Friday and 8AM – 5PM on Saturday and Sundays.

The re-opening includes the fitness center, track, courts and indoor group fitness classes. In accordance with the DCEO guidelines, members and visitors are encouraged to wear face coverings when not exercising and maintain social distance of at least 6-feet.

DISC staff has moved fitness equipment to allow for proper spacing and has marked floors accordingly. Staff will be training users to properly sanitize equipment before and after each use while encouraging frequent hand washing/sanitizing.

Fitness classes will be limited to maximum of 50 participants with social distancing. The overall DISC capacity will be limited to 50% occupancy. The playroom for childcare remains closed at this time.

Users are encouraged to bring their own water or personal water bottles to fill at bottle filling stations. Drinking fountains will remain inoperable at this time.

Past DISC members will be contacted about updating their accounts and new members are welcome.

The Park District continues to urge everyone to keep abreast of the latest public health information via the CDC website at www.cdc.gov, Illinois Department of Public Health and the Macon County Health Department.

Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC) To Close Until Further Notice

The Decatur Park District is committed to protecting the health and safety of our patrons and staff while monitoring the recent COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. Due to Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order limiting crowd sizes to under 50, the Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC) will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, March 18 until further notice.

“We have been vigilant with precautions to keep our patrons and employees safe while continuing to make our facility available for the community,” stated Bill Clevenger, Executive Director of the Decatur Park District. “It has reached a point that closing the DISC facility and Schools Out Day Camp is the right thing to do as the situation continues to evolve.”

DISC users and pass holders can call the DISC at 429-3472 with any questions. Decisions are still being reviewed regarding freezing and/or extending memberships.

We continue to urge everyone to keep abreast of the latest public health information via the CDC website at www.cdc.gov, Illinois Department of Public Health and the Macon County Health Department.

GOLDEN K CHECK PRESENTATION TO ELEMENTARY BASKETBALL PROGRAM

A check presentation is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at the Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC) to recognize the ongoing support of the Golden K service organization for the Elementary Basketball program in partnership with Decatur Public School District #61. Check presentation location will be Main Gym Court 2.

The Golden K contributes nearly five-thousand dollars annually to help fund Elementary Basketball.  An estimated two-hundred sixth graders from Decatur Public Schools take part in the after-school program, representing fourteen different District #61 schools.  The program gives youth the chance to play league games in a positive sports environment at the Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC).  Funds from Golden K are used to provide court time on full-sized courts with spectator seating for each game, referees, scorekeepers, scoreboards, scorebooks, basketballs, and more.

Elementary Basketball is a joint partnership between District #61 and the Decatur Park District, designed to enhance students’ educational and recreational experiences.  The program begins in October, with students playing intramural basketball games within each respective school for a seven-week period. Teams practice twice a week and play league games weekly on Tuesday afternoons from late October through the middle of December at the DISC.  At the end of this season, teams play in Championship Saturday, hosted by the Decatur Indoor Sports Center on December 14th.  For more information on the Elementary Basketball program, please call Jamie Davis at the DISC, 217-429-3472 (DISC).
