A new Litter Critter sculpture featuring the Illinois State animal, the white-tailed deer, will be installed at Overlook Adventure Park on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. to serve as an innovative community engagement opportunity focusing on litter prevention.
Teaming up with the Decatur Park District, Decatur Parks Foundation and Limitless Decatur, The Beautify Decatur Coalition has combined litter prevention and public art by bringing a unique sculpture to a community public space and highlighting the effects litter has on its environment.
Volunteers are encouraged to help pick up litter to be placed inside the Litter Critter sculpture on display. The sculpture is fabricated of metal mesh and is hollow to allow internal space for trash placement as a visual representation of creature versus litter.
Volunteers and community partners can be involved by coming to Overlook Adventure Park on Saturday, May 18th at 10 a.m. to:
- Participate in a cleanup at Nelson Park
- Fill the sculpture with litter
- Celebrate our efforts at the sculpture installation
The Litter Prevention Sculptures were designed and fabricated by Environmental Sculptures.
Don’t miss this important event to help improve our environment and better our community.
