Decatur’s Redbird Rookies League was formed in 2008 thanks to a successful partnership between the Decatur Park District and DMH. The St. Louis Cardinals created Redbird Rookies in 2004 to allow kids to play baseball free of charge. Rawlings donates equipment and uniforms, and the Cardinals offer specialized training so coaches can learn innovative character-building techniques. The Redbird Rookies instills the values of teamwork, integrity, self-esteem and leadership in the “classroom” of a baseball setting. Redbird Rookies is free for boys and girls aged 5 – 13 and they can be in the league for a maximum of 2 seasons. If you are interested in coaching or have a young athlete who would like to play baseball the Redbird Rookies way, call Cortney Wilkerson at the DISC at 429-3472 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Drop-in registration will be held at the DISC through April 23 or Click here to register online!
Coaches’ meetings will be held on April 24-26 to assign teams and review league rules and expectations. All volunteer background check information must be completed by April 19, 2018.
