RED TAIL RUN GOLF CLUB OPENS TO THE PUBLIC

DECATUR, IL - Red Tail Run Golf Club by Raymond Floyd will be open for public play on May 20th. The course opening was delayed due to the effects of early spring weather conditions on the course. Beginning May 15th at 8:00 a.m., tee times will be accepted by calling 217-422-2211.

“This is a great time to be a golfer!” says Jack Kenny, Decatur Park District Board President. “Red Tail Run is truly a course that will appeal to all level of golfers. And the design – in the prairie style – is unique in Central Illinois.”

Designed by legendary hall of fame player, Raymond Floyd, Red Tail Run is carved from the native prairie lands, featuring wide undulating greens, rolling fairways and native grasses. Red Tail Run is named after the Red Tail Hawk, a majestic bird of the open country and native to Central Illinois. The hawk is frequently seen soaring overhead. The course will be home to the Decatur Park District First Tee Learning Center, designed to develop skill sets for young golfers.

The course is designed for the novice and the more accomplished player. There are five tee locations providing multiple angles to the fairway landing area. In October 2005, Red Tail Run received high marks from the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) during the organization’s visit to determine rating and slope.

“I am impressed by the layout of Red Tail Run because it’s a course everyone can enjoy,” said Rick LeHew, Director of Field Services, CDGA. “It will be a challenge from the tips and playable from the middle so it’s enjoyable for players of all skill levels.”

A new web site, www.RedTailRun.org, allows golfers to view the course layout, hole by hole. Red Tail Run is one of just four public signature courses in the state of Illinois. Course construction began in the fall of 2004. The course is owned and operated by the Decatur Park District.
