Park Leaders

Summer in the Parks

For 79 years, our Yellow Hat park leaders have¬†led creative, educational programs in Decatur’s parks. During the summer months, teams of Yellow Hats are in 12 neighborhood parks during the lunch hour each weekday, serving free lunches to youth under the ages of 18, playing fun games, and leading educational activities.

The Decatur Park District’s parks are site locations for the Summer Food Service Program, which provides free lunch and snacks to children aged 18 and¬†younger. The USDA, through the IL State Board of Education, funds the program and is an equal opportunity employer and provider. Download a flyer with the list of park locations/times. Parks and playgrounds will be open June 9 – August 5. The Summer Food Service Program will be available starting June 9.
