Park Leaders

Summer in the Parks

For 78 years, our Yellow Hat park leaders have¬†led creative, educational programs in Decatur’s parks. 2014 will mark another great summer of fun! This year we are taking the show on the road. Teams of Yellow Hats will be in 12 neighborhood parks during the lunch hour each weekday, serving free lunches to youth under the ages of 18, playing fun games, and leading educational activities.

The Decatur Park District’s parks are site locations for the Summer Food Service Program, which provides free lunch and snacks to children aged 18 and¬†younger. The USDA, through the IL State Board of Education, funds the program and is an equal opportunity employer and provider.

Parks and playgrounds will be open from June 10 – August 5.

78th Annual Lantern Parade

Celebrate 78 years of summer fun at the annual Lantern Parade! Enjoy a picnic in the park, parade, and activities. Children will create lanterns in their neighborhood parks during the last week of July. Lanterns may also be created the evening of the parade from 5 – 6 p.m.

Date: Tuesday, August 5
Time: 5 – 9 p.m.
Location: Dreamland Lake, Fairview Park
