SPECIAL RECREATION ASSOCIATION
Mission Statement
The Decatur Park District’s Special Recreation Association (SRA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing quality recreational programs. Through advocacy and awareness, we promote a successful leisure lifestyle.

All registration for Special Recreation programs and events are listed in the monthly activity calendars. To be put on the mailing list, please call the Rec Line, 422-8535. The SRA is specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. Programs are led by qualified staff experienced in working with persons who have disabilities. Volunteers are needed for activities and Camp I Can. If you are interested in volunteering, please call Jamie Crisup, 422-8535.

Arts and Crafts

Join us while we make crafts! Each evening you take home a unique craft. Check the calendar for specific events.

Bingo

Bingo is held twice a month with prizes for winners ranging from shirts to cameras! Each evening consists of seven games with drinks and snacks for your enjoyment.

K.C. Dances

A night of exciting music, dancing and great snacks are all a part of the monthly dances. These festive nights of dancing are held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Dinner Club

Enjoy an evening of friends and food. Participants enjoy great food with a great atmosphere while they travel to different Decatur area restaurants.

Video & Popcorn

If an evening of popcorn and a movie sounds fun to you, then come and join us for this monthly event. Each month, a new movie is featured with popcorn and drinks. Check your monthly calendar for specific dates.

Fishing Derby

Cast your luck! A day of awards is given for biggest fish caught, smallest fish caught and the most fish caught. Sandwich, chips, a drink and transportation are provided.

Miniature Golf

Come and try your luck and skill at Paul’s Puttin’ Place! This miniature golf outing promises a wonderful time! Transportation is provided.

Scovill Zoo Adventure

See the animals of Scovill Zoo! Then, join us for pizza. Check your calendar for times and dates. Transportation is provided.

Walk in the Park

Enjoy the weather as we walk by the lake and feed the ducks. Participants bring a bag of breadcrumbs for our feathered friends!

Saturday Special

Join us for a Saturday activity! Take part in the Saturday Special that ranges from a movie to bowling. Check the monthly calendar for more on these special events.

Camp I Can

Your child can ride a horse, swim and go to the zoo in this camp designed uniquely for special kids with special needs. Several staff and volunteers are on hand to make sure camp is terrific! Fun activities at various locations include Nelson Park, Fairview Pool, Scovill Zoo and more. For more information, call Jamie Crisup at 422-8535.

Camp F.I.R.E.

(Fostering, Independent, Recreation, Education)
Designed uniquely for special kids with special needs age 15 – 21 (must be enrolled in high school with an IEP), this is an extension of Camp I Can. Participants have the opportunity to learn a variety of Special Olympic Sports, cooking, field trips and much more!

Special Olympics

Within the Special Recreation Association, athletes can participate in various sports. Athletes must have current medical application on file to participate. The Special Olympic sports run all year, with several offered in the spring and summer months. Upcoming sports are Track and Field, Softball and Soccer. Anyone interested in participating in Special Olympics with the Decatur Park District should contact Doug Binkley at 422-8535.
