Sports & recreation

Children play, learn, and get healthy in programs at the Decatur Park District! You'll find team sports like baseball, basketball, soccer and cheerleading and individual sports such as golf, tumbling, tennis, swimming and track and field.

 

Decatur Baseball/Softball League

The Decatur Park District's goal is to grow baseball and softball in our community and provide great summer experiences for kids of all ages.

Leagues are available for boys and girls aged 5 - 18, who have experience in the sport and are looking for a more competitive environment to grow into better ball players.

E & E

E & E ball diamond is a property of Decatur Public School District #61 and is adjacent to Baum Elementary School. The address is 801 S. Lake Ridge Ave., Decatur 62521.

Driving directions: access from U.S. 36/Rt.121. From 36/121, turn east on North Country Club Rd. and continue around curve. At road split, stay right for Cantrell St. Pass Circle Drive, Pine Hill and Cedar Hill drives. Lake Ridge will be ahead on your right.

 

 

 

Summer Day Camp and Teen club at the disc

Kids can meet up with friends, enjoy a wide range of sports and take great field trips at the Summer Day Camp and Teen Club at the DISC! Youth stay active with rock wall climbing at the DISC, soccer, volleyball, basketball and lots more!

Arts/Dance

Looking for an exciting opportunity in the arts this summer? Take part in the Park District's Dance & Drama Camp! Classes are available for beginners to advanced, preschool to adult. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop and drama classes will be offered in 4-week sessions. For more info, call Megan Mooney at 422-5911.

Tennis

Tennis is fun! With the Decatur Park District’s youth tennis programs, your kids will enjoy active summer fun and learn more about this great lifetime sport. Tennis sessions are offered for beginners to seasoned experts and are led by the Decatur Athletic Club’s Director of Tennis, Chuck Kuhle.  All programs are held at the USTA award-winning Fairview Park Tennis Complex.

Tiny Tots Tennis

Tiny Tots is the perfect beginner's class for kids aged 3-5.

Date: Mondays, June 7 - July 26

Time: 9 - 9:30 a.m. or 9:30 - 10 a.m.

Cost: $20/resident & $25/non-resident

10 and Under Tennis with USTA

Ten & Under will divide courts into segments and use smaller areas, smaller nets, foam tennis balls and youth friendly racquets

Date/Time: Tuesdays, June 8 - July 27, 6 - 7:30 p.m.

                  Thursdays, June 10 - July 29, 9 - 10:30 a.m.

Cost: $60 (includes team uniform, racquet, foam ball, & extras)

Beginner Tennis

This class is designed for players aged 11 - 12 and meets twice a week for 1 hour.

Date: Mondays & Wednesdays, June 7 - July 28

Time: 10 - 11 a.m.

Cost: $40/resident & $45/non-resident

Teen Tennis

Classes for players aged 13+ meet twice a week. Levels of play offered: beginner and intermediate teen.

Date/Time:

Beginner - Mondays & Wednesdays, June 7 - July 28, 1 - 2 p.m.

Intermediate - Mondays & Wednesdays, June 7 - July 28, 2 - 3 p.m.

Cost: $40/resident & $45/non-resident

R.D. McMillen USTA Junior Team Tennis

Players are placed on teams and play singles and doubles matches each week.

Tennis Pro Tips Nights

Receive tips from local pros and experienced players on improving your technique and match play.

Adult Single Ladders   New this year!

Men's and women's singles challenge ladders! Tennis staff will call players eah week to set up matches. New balls provided each week.

Date: June 7 - July 25
