Young Park Singers

Tune up your vocal chords and dust off your dance shoes! 

The apprentice group of the Decatur Park Singers will hold auditions this winter for the Summer of 2010.  If you're finishing grades 8 - 12 and want to further your singing and dancing career, this program is for you!  The Young Park Singers perform over 20 times at concerts throughout the summer with the Decatur Park Singers.

Park Singers Camp

Come sing and dance with the Decatur Park Singers!  Participants will learn new choreography and lyrics to perform on stage at the Park Singers concert on July 29!

Date: July 26 - 29

Time: 10 a.m. - Noon (age 6 - 8)

          1 - 3 p.m. (age 9 - 12)

Location: Arts & Recreation Center (2020 N. Oakland)

Fee: $50/resident & $60/non-resident

Note: Performance tee shirt included

 

 

Best of Summer Stock (B.O.S.S.)

Gotta sing? Gotta dance?  Come join the B.O.S.S. musical theatre summer camps!  Participants will work together learning songs, dances, and scenes as they bring a musical to life.  Actors will learn team work, musical theatre technique adn skills in preparation for a musical theatre production complete with sets, costuming, props, and lights.  Each camp is led by a professional, experienced musical theatre staff.  The program is directed by Marie Jagger-Taylor.

Registration ends June 11, 2010

Fees: $150 R/$175 NR

           Fee includes performance tee shirt, script, and practice CD.

           B.O.S.S. Jr. participants are required to supply show shoes/pants.

           B.O.S.S. Sr. participants must supply show shoes.

Tickets:

Performances are $7.00 for reserved seating at the Decatur Civic Center Theatre.  Sales begin July 12 and may be purchased at 620 E. Riverside Ave., by phone (422-5911), online at www.decatur-parks.org or one hour prior to show time at the Theatre.

 

 

Greater Decatur Youth Band

You don't have to wait until fall to perform with the band!  Tune up your music skills with friends in the Greater Decatur Youth Band!  This program is designed for area band instrumentalists who are looking for superior summer instruction and a chance to perform at various special events.  Musicians perform under the direction of Dr. Gary Shaw, Millikin University’s Director of Bands. Please call 422-5911 for more information.

Date: Mondays & Wednesdays,

          June 9 - August 7, 2010

Time: Red Band : 9 - 10:15 a.m. (grades 5 - 6)
          Blue Band: 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. (grades 7 - 9)


Location: Rm. K136, Kirkland Fine Arts Center at Millikin University


Age: Students in grades 4 - 6 will be in the Red Band; those in 7 - 10 will be in the Blue Band.  Designed for musicians who have played brass, perussion, or woodwind instruments for at least one year.


Fee: $60.00 R/$72.00 NR

 

 

Greater Decatur Summer Strings

 

If you're looking for top-notch orchestra over the summer, join the Greater Decatur Summer Strings program.  Designed for students in grades 1 - 9, this exciting 4-week program allows you to enhance your skills and perform at various special events. Instructed by Jason Zimmerman.

 

Date: Monday - Thursday, June 7 - July 1, 2010

Time: Reading Orchestra: 12 - 12:45 p.m.

             - For elementary students with 1 year of playing experience.

          Summer Strings: 1 - 1:45 p.m.

             - For elementary students with 2 years of playing experience.

          Summer Orchestra: 2 - 3 p.m.

             - For elementary or middle school students with 3 or more years of playing

               experience.


Location: French Academy


Age: $60 for residents & $72 for non-residents
