Since 1985, the Greater Decatur Chorale has entertained audiences with lively presentations of a wide array of music, including Pop and oldies, country and classical.

This outstanding ensemble of musical performers is supported by sponsor Storm Center 17 and the Decatur Park District’s Arts & Education Partner, Archer Daniels Midland Company.

The Greater Decatur Chorale rehearses Mondays from 7 - 9 p.m. beginning September 14, 2009.

Ticket holders are invited attend special 25th anniversary receptions prior to each Chorale performance.  Meet and greet your favorite Chorale guests!

Tickets

All seats are reserved and cost $10.00 for the Chorale's winter performances at the Decatur Civic Center Theatre.  Call (217) 422-5911 beginning December 14 for Preferred Ticket Customers and December 21 for the general public.  Tickets may also be purchased one hour before show time at the Decatur Civic Center Theatre.  Pay with check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express at all Park District facilities!

Former Chorale Members

Chorale Director

Michael Engelhardt is an active choral conductor, singer, and composer. He currently teaches music theory and serves as opera music director at Millikin University.  Michael also conducts the University Women's Choir and the men's vocal jazz group Cobalt. Additionally, he is involved in the Decatur community as the director of the Greater Decatur Chorale and the Decatur Park Singers. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Millikin University and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

From college choirs to church music, from a capella groups to his funk band in St Louis, Michael brings a wide variety of professional musical experiences with him. Michael has had several songs and arrangements published and performed by churches around the world through the Willow Creek Association. In addition, choral compositions of his have recently been performed at the 2008 WVMEA Convention and the 2008 National MENC Convention.

 

 

AUDITIONS

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010, the Greater Decatur Chorale is looking for vocalists to join this spectacular adult ensemble!  All adults are welcome to audition.

Auditions

Spring Semester: January 25    6 - 7 p.m.

Cost is $30 per semester and does not include costumes or tux rental.  Please prepare a song of your choice to sing a capella.
