Sign Up for Scovill Zoo’s Summer Camps & Classes!

It’s not too late to sign up for Scovill Zoo’s summer zoo camps and classes! Youth aged 5 – 14 will discover the wild side of education with Critter Encounters, Zoo Kids, Zoo Camp, Zoo Crew, and Zoo Explorers! One and two week sessions begin June 4 and are offered throughout the summer. Single day Critter Encounters classes begin June 16. Zoo Explorers and Zoo Crew participants can experience the Zoo Safari on July 30. Zoo Safari members will join their favorite counselors and friends on trips to other Central Illinois zoos and nature centers. Click here to view full listings of camp dates. MidState Soccer Club’s U11 Girls Win Mother’s Day Classic

The Decatur Park District’s MidState Soccer Club travelled to St. Charles, Missouri for the annual Mother’s Day Classic on May 11 – 13. MidState took several of its club teams to this prestigious tournament to face some high level opposition, and the U11 girls’ team won their championship, giving all the moms a very happy Mother’s Day! Congratulations to Mackenzie Velchek, Madison Kokal, Mackenzie Kokal, Camryn Wagner, Maddie Peck, Claire Peters, Reese Bobitt, Noelle DeJaynes, Marie Davis, Tara Grueter, Megan Leighton, Riley Stahl, Riley Danner, Lauren Pugh, Mary Shupenas, Coach Nic Webster & Coach Kristi Webster.

Greater Decatur Summer Strings Information

If you’re looking for superior orchestra instruction this summer, join the Park District’s Greater Decatur Summer Strings program! Summer Strings allows youth in grades 1 – 9 to enhance their skills and perform at various special events. Sessions are scheduled Monday through Thursday from June 4 – 29 at Garfield Montessori Magnet School. Jason Zimmerman instructs. Call 422-5911 for more information.

MidState Soccer Club’s U13 Boys Win IFC Spring Invitational

Congratulations to MidState Soccer Club’s U13 boys who took 1st place at the IFC Spring Invitational in Champaign on May 6, 2012. The boys showed tremendous character defeating a team in the championship game that had beaten them earlier in the tournament. Well done, Coach Jeff Jenkins, Kyle Anselmo, Jonah Bayles, Brent Buffenbarger, Morgan Coit, Keegan Hall, Joshua King-Nobles, Connor Luttrell, Tanner Martin, Evan Mason, Lucas McCoskey, Ricardo Onate, Brandon Price, John Silva, Jake Stahl, Mitchell Stott, Brennan Weirman, and Jackson Whitlock!

Greater Decatur Youth Band Registration Information

Practice and perform with the band this summer in the Decatur Park District’s Greater Decatur Youth Band! “Jam in the Park” is designed for 5th – 9th grade instrumentalists who have one year of experience and are looking for superior summer instruction and a chance to perform at various special events. Sessions are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 6 – August 4. Dr. Gary Shaw, Millikin University Director of Bands, and Brianna Bjerke, Mt. Zion Director of Bands, direct. Mizuno Demo Day at Hickory Point Golf Course

Golfers can prepare for the summer season during the Mizuno Demo Day on Monday, May 21. Participants can view Mizuno’s newest accessories, find out their “Swing DNA” from the Shaft Optimizer, and demo a variety of Mizuno golf clubs. Scovill Zoo Wolf Art Collection Opening Reception

Scovill Zoo is unveiling its new Wolf Art Collection on Wednesday, May 9! Presented by the Decatur Parks Foundation, the Scovill Zoo Wolf Art Collection includes paintings, photography and books donated by the estate of William T. Eichenauer that will become the foundation for a new wolf education program at the zoo. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Two speakers will be in attendance from Wolf Park (Battle Ground, Indiana). Pat Goodman is the primary wolf handler and behavioral researcher and will talk about wolf habitats and the “state of wolves” in the U.S. today. Monte Sloan is a senior wolf handler and staff photographer who will offer tips on photographing these beautiful animals. The new viewing window is expected to be complete, as well, so visitors can stop down to see the wolves, enjoy the reception, and view beautiful artwork.

You can also create-a-camp by adding your favorite Park District programs like Zoo Kids, Zoo Crew, First Tee Golf, B.O.S.S., Summer Strings, and the Greater Decatur Youth Band!

Summer Teen Club

This extension of summer day camp allows teens aged 12 – 14 to swim at Fairview pool, take great field trips, climb the DISC rock wall, and play soccer, volleyball, basketball, and more!

National Senior Health & Fitness Day
